Historically, the basis of every antique auction has been period furniture, clocks and barometers. In each of our regular Antiques & Fine Art auctions, we boast several hundred lots. Despite the so called doom and gloom of brown furniture we still find that quality and practical pieces are much sought after by collectors and specialist dealers alike. Whilst there has been a downward trend in this area, buyers appreciate the value for money available, and also appreciate the environmental benefits of buying second hand fine furniture. Recently the popularity of mid-century furniture from the UK and from the likes of Scandinavia has increased dramatically, and a 1970s rosewood sideboard table can be worth ten times that of its 19th century counterparts. Such pieces can be found in our regular Antiques & Fine Art auctions, and as part of our Studio Ceramics & Modern Design sales.
Quality clocks by the premier makers are more popular today than ever, and every one of our auctions features longcase, wall, bracket and carriage timepieces, along with stick, wheel and pocket barometers.
