Day Two of our October London auction, saw 184 jewellery lots auctioned but it was the tale of one costume jewellery box, that stole the show and will forever leave a sparkly trail at Adam Partridge Auctioneers and Valuers!
The vendor, a private UK source, brought a box of costume jewellery into the saleroom on a routine weekly valuation day that was booked in by one of our porters. The box of costume jewellery was to be consigned at £50-80 and to be included in the October jewellery sale.
After Ridley Partridge, Auctioneer and Valuer, examined the costume jewellery ahead of cataloguing, he soon realised there was huge significance to the box as summarised below:
Lot 1311, the emerald cut sapphire, gathered interest and brought international gem dealers into the saleroom, eight phone lines were booked and it eventually sold to a private collector for £498,000, marking an auction house record, and beating his Father, Adam Partridge's record from 2020 (the ancient Roman bust, selling for £384,000).
The costume jewellery box contained more than £0.5 million of gems inside!! An incredible result from Ridley's professionalism and always doing his best for our customers.
