Bidding

What is a Live Auction?

Live auctions are traditional auctions held at one of our auction venues – either Macclesfield or Liverpool. You can choose to buy online via our bidding system or attend the auction and bid in person. Make sure to check the location, date and time of the auction so you don’t miss out.

How to Leave Absentee Bids Online

To leave an absentee bid online, you will need to be logged in and registered for the auction.

Before the live auction has begun you can place absentee bids on Adam Partridge Live.

Enter the amount you would like to bid and click ‘Place bid’.

You will be asked to confirm this bid.

Click Confirm and your bid will be placed.

Once the Live Auction has begun you can place bids real-time on the Live bidding page.

How to bid Live

To bid live you need:

  • An Adam Partridge Live
  • To be Registered to Bid for the auction. You will know if you are not registered because you will see ‘Register to Bid’ next to all the lots.

Before the auction, we will display a link on our catalogue page and on all lot pages to take you through to the Live Auction.

Click on this to be taken to the auction.

The Live Bidding Page will look like this.

This can be viewed on any device. Make sure you’re using Google Chrome or Firefox for the best bidding experience.

The live bidding page will update in real time as the auction progresses.

You will see the Images and Description of the lot being offered as well as the Current bid price and asking price.

To place a bid in the live Auction, make sure you are aware of the current asking price and then simply press the “Bid Now” button where the asking price is displayed. The system will show if you are the high bidder or if you are outbid.

Online bids are processed in real time so you need to be ready to click “Bid Now” or you might miss out.

Live auctions will have Buyers premium applicable which is not included in the bid price so always make sure you double check the Buyer’s Premium on your item so that there are no surprises when the invoice arrives.

Will I be charged extra for bidding online?

There is a small surcharge for bidding online via Adam Partridge Live of 2% plus VAT.

If you bid via any other platform you will be charged more to bid online so it is worth creating an account on our website.

Absentee Bidding

What is an absentee bid?

Absentee bids are bids that are placed in advance of the auction by a bidder.

They can be left at any time prior to the auction or even during the live auction providing that lot is not currently being offered or already sold in the live auction.

Why is a Current Bid showing?

Current bid is the current highest bid on that lot. This allows you to make a more informed decision on how much you want to bid on that lot.

If you enter £200 and someone has already placed a bid of £100, the current bid will be £110.

If you enter a bid that is lower than someone else’s maximum bid you will be informed that you have been outbid. You can then make the decision to increase your bid if you would like to. Enter a new maximum bid and click ‘Change Bid’.

Placing Multiple Absentee Bids

You can place multiple bids within an Auction from the catalogue page by entering your bid amount(s) in the boxes provided against the relevant lots and clicking the “Place Multiple Bids” button at the bottom of the catalogue listing page. You will be asked to confirm your bids and receive an email notification that your bids have been placed

Keeping Track of Absentee Bids

As a Logged in User you can keep track of your bids and at any time by clicking on the “My Items” link at the top of the page. You will also be able to see if you are the current high bidder on that lot.

I Placed an Absentee Bid and received an Outbid Notification

If you have placed an Absentee bid on a lot and receive an email that you have been outbid, this means that another bidder has placed a higher absentee bid on the same lot. This gives you the opportunity to increase your absentee bid and still have a chance of being the successful buyer of that lot. This can be done in the “My Items” section or from the catalogue or lot page.

My bid is ‘Off increment’ what does this mean?

If you place a bid that doesn’t align with the increments set by the auctioneer then you will be notified on screen.

You will be given two suggestions of the amount you can bid. Click on one of these suggested values and it will populate the bid box for you.

Click place bid to place this amount.

Our increments are as follows:

0 to £100 – £5 increments
£100 to £300 – £10 increments
£300 to £1,000 – £20 increments
£1,000 to £3,000 – £50 increments
£3,000 to £5000 – £100 increments
£5,000 + - £200 increments

My bid is ‘Too Small’ what does this mean?

All items will have a ‘Starting’ price; this is the minimum amount you can bid on this lot. If you attempt to place a bid below this amount you will receive an on-screen notification that your bid is too small.

Check the Starting price displayed next to that lot and place a bid equal or more than that amount.

I want to remove/decrease my bid, how can I do this?

You can increase your bid but cannot lower it or remove it. This is because bids are competed before the live auction to give a ‘Current Bid’ – this is known as competitive bidding.

Bidders need to ensure they have satisfied themselves with the condition of a lot before placing a bid. Please make sure you are taking care when entering a bid online. If you need further assistance with this then contact us directly. We are not obliged to remove bids but will use our discretion in these situations.

How can I see the items that I am bidding on?

Go to https://live.adampartridge.co.uk/m/my-items/bidding or click on “My Items” at the top of the page.

Here you will be able to see any bids that you have placed on upcoming lots.

What is Floor Priority?

Auctions can be fast paced environments and sometimes when an online bid is placed, the auctioneer has already taken a bid at the same amount from a buyer on the auction room floor. In this case the auctioneer may give the floor buyer priority.

You will see a message on the live bidding page stating that “the auctioneer gave the floor priority”. If you want to buy the lot you will need to bid again at the next asking price.

Can I bid in a live auction using my mobile device?

Adam Partridge Live is fully responsive so you can search, browse and bid using your mobile or tablet device.

You can bid live during the auction from your mobile device and will experience full audio and video.

What happens if I am successful in buying in a live auction?

When you buy a lot in an online auction, you will see on screen confirmation.

Alternatively, you can check all your winning bids in the ‘My Items’ section.

If you are the highest bidder, an invoice will be emailed to you shortly after the completion of the auction. Payment and collection details will be on the invoice.

Audio/Video

Why can’t I see/hear the auction?

You should check that the device you're using has the sound turned on and working speakers available to broadcast sound.

If you can see the lot info but can’t see/hear the auction, A firewall might be blocking you. You will need to allow this IP address, 88.202.231.136 over port 10845 on your personal or corporate firewall.

You can then test that this has worked by clicking this https://513172.auctionserver.net:10845/ping and it should return "ok".
