01/06/2010 : The Henstock Collection
A remarkable collection of antiques & works of art is to come under the hammer at Adam Partridge Auctioneers & Valuers of Congleton, Cheshire on 1st July.
Over 750 lots have come from the home of the late Arthur Henstock with some originating from his family home Slaley Hall, Bonsall, Derbyshire and many others having being collected over the years by Mr Henstock, who lived in Hale Barns for most of his life.
The collection includes Collectors’ Items, Bronzes, a huge amount of ceramics and glass, silver, clocks, barometers and furniture.
One of Mr Henstock’s favourites was his collection of Moore Brothers porcelain, made at Longton, Stoke-on-Trent from 1872-1905. This has been divided into about 40 lots.....
Mr Henstock was a very well known figure in Hale Barns and indeed many of the surrounding areas. He was a very successful solicitor and built up a chain of offices in locations including Hale, Wilmslow, Knutsford, Bolton, Congleton, Alsager, Urmston and Hyde. Outside his professional life, he was also a keen gardener being the Vice President of the Alderley Edge and Wilmslow Horticultural Society for a number of years. Other interests included cooking, music and poultry!
His main love however must have been his fantastic collection of antiques, which he enjoyed showing to everyone that visited the house.
After a battle of almost 40 years with Parkinson’s Disease, Arthur passed away in January 2010.
