24/07/2013 : Specialist sales coming up at Adam Partridge Auctioneers

This autumn sees several specialist sales taking place at Adam Partridge Auctioneers in Macclesfield and entries are being invited for them.

First up is the Northern Art sale taking place alongside the Antiques sale on the 26th and 27th September. Adam Partridge is no stranger to northern art having sold a Helen Bradley oil for £19,500 in 2010, as well as having a Northern Art section in every Fine Art sale.
This time, it’s Helen Bradley’s teacher who is likely to headline the event. William Ralph Turner, who very sadly passed away on the 10th July at the age of 93, spent years as an art teacher in Cheadle Hulme while painting in his free time. It wasn’t until he was in his 80s that he was ‘discovered’ living in Congleton by the owner of an art shop who got his paintings into the market and Turner soon became a national success. Regarded as the last of the great northern painters (he was a contemporary of Lowry and used to meet up with him in Manchester), his scenes of the north west of England are highly sought after by collectors and buyers have included Peter Ustinov, Sebastian Coe and Eddie Shah.

There will be several paintings by William Turner in the sale in September including the pictured street scene in Stockport, one of his favourite places to paint.

The deadline for entries for this sale is the 2nd September. Other popular artists that would be ideal for the sale include Trevor Grimshaw, Braaq (Brian Shields), Arthur Delaney, Kyffin Williams, Donald McIntyre, Geoffrey Key, John Thompson, Harold Riley, Roger Hampson, Tom Dodson, Liam Spencer, James Lawrence Isherwood, Harry Rutherford, Adolphe Valette and Theodore Major.

As well as the Northern Art sale, there is a specialist Sporting and Militaria sale on the 11th October (deadline for entries 16th September), an Oriental and Asian Art sale on the 8th November to coincide with Asian Art Week (deadline for entries 14th October), and a Judaica, Silver and Jewellery sale on the 22nd November (deadline for entries 4th November).

Free valuation days are held every Monday from 9:30am – 12:30pm and 5:30am – 7:30pm at the Macclesfield branch, or Wednesdays from 9am – 5:30pm at the Liverpool branch.
