06/05/2010 : Records broken as violin sells for 89,000

A fine Italian violin by Joseph Gagliano, Naples 1785, lot 1212, was sold for 89,000, a new auction record for a violin by this maker and a new house record for Adam Partridge Auctioneers & Valuers.

The violin was in remarkable condition and had not been available on the open market for around 50 years. It was also accompanied by a 1962 W.E.Hill & Sons certificate.

This also represents a new house record for Adam Partridge Auctioneers & Valuers, massively eclipsing the 27,000 achieved for a Chinese libation cup a few months ago.
