23/06/2014 : Prestbury Sixes Cricket Tournament 2014 Winners

Adam Partridge Auctioneers cricket team won their second trophy at the Prestbury Sixes Tournament on Sunday 22nd June.

Contested by 8 local teams at Prestbury Cricket Ground, it was the first time Partridge's have entered the 6-a-side competition. The rules were that every team's score started on 100, a boundary with a bounce first scores 10, a boundary without a bounce scores nothing and the batsman is out. Batsman are to retire at 40 but can come back in at the end if there are still balls left in the 5 overs.

The first game was against local pub team Ye Olde Admiral Rodney, with Team AP batting first and posting a score of 228. The team consisted of Adam himself, his wife Clare, Oliver Hancock, Chris Surfleet and Gary Marston from the Macclesfield branch and Kelvin Tyson from the Liverpool branch. The Admiral Rodney only managed a score of 198 (despite Hancock putting a catch down!) so Partridge's were through to the semi final.

The semi final game was against old rivals Ash Tree with Oliver Scott being brought into the team in place of Oliver Hancock. A poor batting performance from Ash Tree meant that most of their runs came from wides with some questionable bowling from Team AP (wides also counted as 10 runs). However, some good batting from Surfleet meant that Adam Partridge Auctioneers were through to the final.

Chris Surfleet

It was the Tennis Club that had also made it through to the final thanks to some great batting. Hancock was back in the side for Scott for the final and Partridge's were batting first. Surfleet and Marston opened the batting, putting on some quick runs before Marston had a rush of blood to the head and hit a six. Not long after that, Surfleet retired on 40 for the second time of the day and it was left to Adam and Tyson to see it through to the end of the 5 overs, finishing on a score of 219. A couple of early wickets put the Tennis Club on the back foot and some good fielding and bowling meant that they couldn't get anywhere near Partridge's score and Team AP were the champions!

The Winning Team

Next up for the team is a celebrity game featuring MPs and the cast of Emmerdale, and following that is the defence of the Macclesfield Ashes.
