17/07/2013 : Macclesfield Ashes won by Adam Partridge Auctioneers
As the attention of the nation is focused on England and Australia battling for the Ashes, the Macclesfield Ashes were being equally hard fought over at the beautiful setting of Langley Cricket Ground.
The event was contested between Adam Partridge Auctioneers, Royal Bank of Scotland, SAS Daniels Solicitors, Harts Accountants and a Nomads team, with the teams contributing a donation to the charity Ruby's Fund, of which Adam Partridge is the patron.
On yet another stunning summer afternoon, the five teams played in a round robin group to eventually finish with the top two teams contesting the final. It was SAS Daniels and Adam Partridge Auctioneers who made it through to the showcase final with SAS Daniels winning the toss and electing to bat first. Team Partridge consisted of Adam, Clare and Ridley Partridge, Chris Surfleet, Bill Forrest, Gary Marsden, Nick Dudley-Jones, Mike Cooksley and Elrado Ducreay, who took to the field and restricted SAS Daniels to 84, a great effort all round with a few fine catches thrown in for good measure. Surfleet and Dudley-Jones opened the batting, but at this stage few could have predicted the drama that was to unfold! The total rose with lusty blows being struck by all members of the team until it came down to Forrest needing to hit the very last ball for two runs for glory and immortality. He didn't let the rest of the team down and he confidently sliced the delivery for the winning runs!
Adam said ”It was a great day with plenty of money raised for the charity and we look forward to defending the title next year!”
