02/03/2017 : Highlights from the February Sale
The two day sale of Antiques & Fine Arts with Northern & Contemporary Art proved that the likes of Lowry, Delaney and Simcock remain popular. Here are some of the highlights...
DUCHESNE OF PARIS; a late 18th/early 19th century brass pocket watch, the circular elaborately engraved dial with applied white metal Roman hour markers, the fusee movement with engraved cock on square baluster pillars and with visible pendulum, with pierced and engraved case.
This enchanting item was orginally estimated at £100 - £200 but achieved £2250 to a determined online bidder who was obviously keen to get their hands on it.
LAURENCE STEPHEN LOWRY RBA RA (1887-1976); pencil study "Lytham St Annes", signed and dated 1916, inscribed on Pitcairn Galleries of Knutsford label verso.
L.S. Lowry did not disappoint at this auction. The pencil sketch realised the expected £8000 that it had been estimated at. This was a truly unusal Lowry piece given that it did not feature the typical Manchester street and factory scenes that he was so well associated with.
Two cased commemorative platinum proof crowns; 2004, 100th Anniversary of The Entente Cordiale" and Queen Elizabeth II 80th Birthday".
Another very popular item which sold for much more than they had been estimated at - orginally for £250 - £ 350 but sold for an incredible for £5000 following some heated bidding between a buyer in the room and one online.
