19/08/2017 : Highlights from the August Sale

Here are some highlights from the August Auction of Cars & Automobilia, Stamps & Ephemera.

Despite being during the peak holiday period, there were still plenty of visitors the The Cheshire Saleroom, Macclesfield for the auction of Antiques & Fine Arts with Cars & Automobilia, Stamps & Ephemera on 10th & 11th August 2017.

Amongst the lots going under the hammer during this sale there were some very impressive collections of stamps which drew attention from buyers all over the world. Online bidding has widened our audience to buyers residing in other countries, let alone other counties, and is making buying at auction even more accessible.

GREAT BRITAIN STAMPS 1840-1969 valuable old collection in a Windsor printed album, and sundry pages etc, including 1840 1d blacks (19, including two apparently unused and one on May 19th 1840 cover, another on May 1840 piece), 1840 2d (8, incl. strip of three), later Victorian including 1856 1s imprimatur on blue glazed paper, 1858-79 1d plate 225 (2) used, £5 orange used, 1997-1900 to 1s mint, 1891 £1 green mint, 1902 £1 "SPECIMEN", 1902-11 to 1s mint, Seahorses 1913 10s and £1 on Guernsey parcel post form, 1929 £1 PUC mint (2), later issues, Officials, etc. This lot was in very high demand with competition coming from in the room, online and over the telephone. It eventually sold for £4300, over it's highest estimate.

This 2009 black BMW 325i M Sport Auto, registered number MT 09 XAA, mileage 26,328, was in pristine condition, given the age of the vehicle and obviously appealed to someone with a keen eye and sold for £6800.

A Norris of London 'A28' cabinet maker's gun metal, ebony and steel bladed plane, stamped twice 'R Salter' to the ebony and with patent details to the rear screw was a piece that created a lot of interest both in the room and to the online community which led to some fierce bidding. The plane eventually sold to an in room buyer for £3700, well over the original estimate of £100 - £200.
