Our November 1st & 2nd auction boasts one of the most impressive collections of jewellery we have ever offered, with 250 lots of rings, necklaces, bracelets, brooches, earrings, cufflinks and more.
One of the stars of the show is bound to be lot 1516, an impressive diamond solitaire ring. The diamond weighs a whopping 7.7cts, but more importantly is classed as fancy light yellow, a very rare find at auction especially in a stone of this size. The estimate of £20,000-£30,000 may end up being very conservative indeed! Just a few lots later 1553 will be offered, and this carries the name of the greatest of all jewellery manufacturers – Cartier. This ring is set with a glorious deep green emerald and is flanked by diamonds to intensify the colour and the stones are of the quality you would expect from such a prestigious firm. Estimated to bring £15,000-£20,000 it is sure to appeal to numerous buyers. Amongst the more unusual items in this section are not one, but two 18ct gold calculators for the executive who has everything! The first is by the well known jewellery firm Piaget, whilst the second is set with diamonds, each individually cut from the back to form the function keys and numbers, a real feat of craftsmanship. They carry estimates of £1200-£1800 & £7500-£10,000.
Away from the jewellery, the November sale includes the second musical instrument auction of the year, and another good selection is on offer. There is a good viola made by Michele Ashley in 1976 in the heart of instrument production – Cremona, and with the added provenance of it belonging to professional musician Julian Gaillard (1930-2009). Also in this section is an equally well made 19th century polyphon set in walnut case and sold with twenty two all important discs. Both are hoped to achieve between £800-£1200.
A strong market amongst collectors are coins, and there are no shortage of these to be had come sale day. We start with some very early gold guineas covering the reigns of Charles II, James II, William III, Queen Anne and Georges I, II & III. Coins from this date are not uncommon, but to find a group of gold guineas is a rare discovery. As the coins continue through sovereigns, half sovereigns, American 20 dollar coins, and many more we come to another amazing group of cased presentation packs. These include full denomination sets, proof coins, commemoratives etc and will be sure to sell well.
We are also offering three noted collections in this auction;
The Hazel Coates collection of signed sporting memorabilia.
The Pearce collection of Wileman & co, Foley & Shelley
The Ryles collection of clocks & barometers.
