Lowry was just 29 when, in 1916, he produced this view of Lytham St Annes, long before he focused on the Industrial scenes for which he became famous.  The delicate aspect of the landscape is in stark contrast of the smoke filled factories he later painted, and the drawing shows a very soft touch and a huge amount of detail. The estimate on this piece is £8000 - £12000.

This Northern and Contemporary Art sale contains many items of interest, including VASILII IVANOVICH SHUKHAEV (Russian, 1887-1973); oil on board, portrait study (£15,000 - £20,000). PETER HOWSON OBE (born 1958); a large oil on canvas "Mandancin", signed lower left, inscribed verso to both canvas and stretcher (£5000 - £8000) and a Northern Arts sale wouldn't be complete without a LAURENCE STEPHEN LOWRY RBA RA (1887-1976): a signed limited edition coloured print "Man Lying on a Wall", signed in pencil to lower left (£3000 - £5000).

A large c.1900 mahogany longcase clock, the pierced pediment above detailed arched brass dial, set with "strike/silent", "chime/silent" and "Cambridge/Westminster" subsidiary dials above silvered chapter ring set with gilt Arabic numerals and inscribed "Batty & Sons Ltd, Manchester", with glazed door flanked by carved and wrythen fluted pilasters to a mask carved plinth base and ogee bracket feet, with three graduated brass weights with an estimate of £15,000 - £20,000.

There are some unsual items in the jewellery section which contains George Formby's 9ct yellow gold cigarette case of rectangular form with engine turned decoration and diamond set thumb piece, engraved "To George, from Beryl, 1955" to the top, hallmarked for WH Manton Ltd, Birmingham 1941, 9 x 8cm, in clifton leather wallet. The item was previously property of George Formby OBE, the English actor, singer, songwriter and comedian, bought at the sale of his belongings with a letter of provenance (£3000 - £4000), and there are some lovely lots in the clock section with a large c.1900 mahogany longcase clock, the pierced pediment above detailed arched brass dial, set with "strike/silent", "chime/silent" and "Cambridge/Westminster" subsidiary dials above silvered chapter ring set with gilt Arabic numerals and inscribed "Batty & Sons Ltd, Manchester", with glazed door flanked by carved and wrythen fluted pilasters to a mask carved plinth base and ogee bracket feet, with three graduated brass weights (pictured).

A 18ct yellow gold brilliant cut diamond solitaire ring, the stone approx. 3.13ct in platinum claw setting, with A.G.I report and certificate and an estimate £8,000 - £12,000
