The first auction of 2014 consists of over 1,200 lots, covering all manner of antiques. Included is a fantastic collection of pharmacy antiques from a local collection. Some rare jars are featured including a 17th century English delft drug jar, Ex. John F Wilkinson MD collection. Several early 19th century glass carboys, some a rich amethyst colour, one unusually shaped as a pear, are from the same local collection. Over 100 pieces of Georgian treen also grace the saleroom, including sought after ‘goosewing’ knitting sheaths, kitchenalia and other mysterious objects.
Offered for sale too is an impressive collection of clocks, from large 19th century table clocks and enormous Edwardian musical longcase clocks to carriage clocks, impressive ormolu mantel clocks and even a thought to be unique Sir William Bailey's patent circular enamel decorated wall clock.
Most people remember the famous scene in Jurassic Park when the archaeologists show a section of amber with an insect inclusion. This bore the foundation of the dinosaur park as scientists were able to (miraculously) extract dinosaur DNA from the mosquito residing in the amber. Well, offered in this sale are two amber bead necklaces, with insect inclusions in each bead. Many of these insects date from the Jurassic era, so who knows, perhaps the lucky owner of these rare and unusual necklaces might hold the key to a real life dinosaur park...
