A good Victorian hallmarked silver centrepiece modelled as a tree with cast vine leaves and grapes surmounted by a wire basket housing glass bowl, the tree surmounted by three figures of a sailor, a miner and a figure representing navigation emblematic of trade, industry and empire, on a shaped circular tapering base raised on three volute and scroll decorated feet, Edward Barnard and John Barnard, London 1853, height to top of bowl 65cm, diameter of glass bowl 28cm, diameter of base approx 30cm, approx 165.57ozt. This order was placed on February 26th 1853 by the jeweller and retailer Joseph Mayer of Liverpool. A copy of the original Barnard Brothers order book is included with this lot.
