LAURENCE STEPHEN LOWRY, RBA RA (1887-1976); a very early handwritten postcard sent to his mother dated 15 July 1936, Thurso and inscribed 'My dear mother, hope you are well as possible am leaving here in the morning for Edinburgh & will have to stay the night there for I wouldn't get through to Berwick in one day. I may go on therefore Friday night - rather wet and misty here, Laurie, getting a bit tired of being away', written on the reverse of a Valentine's postcard, 9 x 14cm, unframed.

Thank you very much for your letter. As i am on the eve of going off until well in the new year & this matter is rather urgent - and the fact that [...] Monday last i sent all my finished paintings to the Lefevre Gallery. I have asked them to deal with this matter for me under the circumstances. [...] quite a number there that have been reproduced [...] they ought to get these and the card this week I should say. I hope you have a good xmas and new year as I am sure you will & do please remember to Mrs Wootler & Debbie. With every good wish yours L.S. Lowry. This is the time of the year when I knock off work for a good rest my friend [...] on it.' 23 x 17.75cm.
