STAN FRYER (1906-?); oil on board, the Manchester United European Cup Winners 1968 during the victory parade in the Piccadilly Gardens with a crowd of thousands at fever pitch, with the Hotel Piccadilly in the background and a statue of Queen Victoria in the foreground, barely visible beneath the young supporters who have scaled it, keen to get a view of their champions, signed lower left and dated 1968, 91 x 50cm, framed (D). Provenance - Found on a routine house call less than a mile from Old Trafford where it had been hanging for the last 30 years. The painting has not been seen in public display since it was first exhibited at the Manchester Academy exhibition in 1968. BIOGRAPHY: 'Fryer, Stan'; painter in oils, watercolour, pen and ink etc; b1906; s of George Fryer; m Doris A Rothwell; 1s, 1d.
