Most of the wirework is missing to the grip with very small areas of wear to the shagreen on the edges, quite pitted throughout the metalwork and pitting to the blade slightly obscuring the detail.

The wirework is lifting slightly where is meets the back of the hilt. Some lacquering or paint residue to the pommel and guard, pitted blade with a greased sticky finish and a couple of nicks to the blade and the scabbard with pitting also.

Tarnishing to the metal mounts, slight lifting to the wirework grip in parts and discolouration to the shagreen, pitting to the blade slightly obscuring the decoration. The brass scabbard has a couple of dents and a noticeable repair around the very end section where it meets the sword.

The edge of the shagreen where it meets the frame is worn in parts, also some tarnishing and sticky residue to the metal mounts. Some light pitting to the blade, light pitting to the scabbard with two holes to the upper section. The scabbard is also inscribed 'F. Holme First L.R.V.'. Replaced section on the end of the scabbard where it meets the sword. This sword is neither painted or plated.

Natural splits throughout the ivory with some discolouration. The hilt is slightly loose and missing the leather washer. Surface scratches to the brass guard. The blade has an inscription down the back which is indecipherable and sadly due to pitting and wear to the blade, the decoration is also obscured. There are chips to the blade edge.

Heavy wear to the shagreen and losses where it meets the back of the hilt. Pitting throughout the blade obscuring some of the decoration, noticeably worse to the top end and some heavier degradation to the blade, heavy pitting to the scabbard.
