CLAIRE CURNEEN (born 1968); 'St Sebastian', a matt white porcelain figure, cobalt blue and gold lustre, made 2003, height 69cm, and a dedicated book Claire Curneen: Succour (2003) featuring the artist's work of this period (2). (D) One of several versions of the martyrdom of St Sebastian that marked the first time Curneen had portrayed the male figure in clay. Though fatally wounded by arrows, he remains standing, pious, staring ahead in calm resignation - a contradiction often depicted in religious imagery. Provenance: Purchased from the artist, 2004.
