Condition Report

Footnote - John Allcock was a remarkable gentleman. He was the landlord at The Feathers pub in Macclesfield and the inscription on this pocket watch is to the stepson of his second wife, a gift given on Walter Longden's 18th birthday. John Allcock will forever be remembered as 'The Macclesfield Pedestrian' when he twice walked backwards from Macclesfield to Buxton, the first time in 1875 executing the feat in 2 hours and 40 minutes. He kept his face towards Macclesfield the entire distance.
